Shri Chitravina N Ravikiran teaches a lovely Tiruppugazh in Yadukulakambodhi, ‘Bhaktiyal yan unai’. A Carnatic musician’s repertoire would never be complete without a few compositions of Arunagirinathar, whose Tiruppugazh-s are renowned for their awe-inspiring and unique poetic meters and lyrical felicity. Many of his compositions need special talas that conform to his meters and this piece is set to one such ‘chhanda tala’ that is structured as Two Khanda Chapus plus One Rupakam. Shri Ravikiran provides an outline of one of Carnatic music’s most exquisite ragas, Yadukulakambodhi and also gives some practice on the tala, before proceeding to teach the composition.
Students may also buy and download the book, “Perfecting Carnatic Music – Level I” to obtain the notation for this and many other exquisite pieces.
Please note that the preview may not pertain to this particular song.
