Jayakaruna – Dhanyashi – Lakshana Geetam

The Dhanyashi composition, ‘Jaya Karuna’ taught by Shri Chitravina N Ravikiran is a lakshana geetam of one of the most distinguished but rarely known composers in Carnatic music, Pydala Gurumurthy Shastri. The composer has embedded the grammatical details of the raga in the lyrics of the piece (which is in Sanskrit), which is why such compositions are categorized as lakshana geetams. Shri Ravikiran begins with an outline of the raga, before moving on to this beautiful geetam.
