About Purandaradasa

Purandara Dasa(1484-1564) is often referred to as the "grandfather" of carnatic music. He invented "gitas", "Alankarams" and "Swaravalis" which can be used to teach a novice carnatic music. This is a practice that is still followed today. He also invented the ragam, mayamalavagowla. He composed many songs in this ragam mostly about adressing social issues while also composing songs about worship. To know more click here.
