Part 1 – Foundations (Total 30 pts)

  • 01

    Name 6 composers, and list 2 compositions, identify mudra/signature (if given in PCM 2), and list 2 facts (hometown, language(s) used, specialties, ishta devata, etc.) for each – (5 pts)

  • 02

    Give the serial nos., arohanam & avarohanam, and 2 janya ragas for Mayamalavagaula, Kharaharapriya, Harikambodhi, Shankarabharanam, and Kalyani – (5 pts)

  • 03

    Identify 4 ragas from audios out of any 10 (given by student) from popular janyas starting with letters R-Y - (5 pts)

  • 04

    Sing arohanam & avarohanam & identify melam + melakarta of 4 more ragas from the same list – (5 pts)

  • 05

    Put a randomly selected tala from the 35 talas in mishra gati, and another in sankirna gati – (5 pts)

  • 06

    Put mishra chapu for a song that starts on samam – (5 pts)

Part 2 – Practical (Total 70 pts)

  • 01

    6 geetams out of any 20 (given by student), max. one in Malahari, plus any one swarajati(10 pts each)

    • Must give name of ragam, arohanam-avarohanam, and name of talam for each
    • At least 3 geetams should include one of these questions:
      • Raga delineation
      • Identify swaram for a phrase
      • Sing swaram for a geetam
  • 02

    1 swarajati (student’s choice) (10 pts each)

    • Must give name of ragam, arohanam-avarohanam, and name of talam for each
    • At least one of the following questions to be asked:
      • Raga delineation
      • Identify swaram for a phrase
      • Sing swaram for a geetam
